Q: What should I expect my child to learn?
A: Martial arts can be broken down into four main areas
1.Basics - This includes stances, punches, kicks, footwork and basic patterns
2.Kata - These are basic techniques put together to create a form/routine.
3.Self Defense - Combos designed to help students defend themselves in different scenarios Sparring - A controlled and supervised practice in which children practice their skills. It helps them improve their timing, distance, and reflexes, while also teaching discipline and sportsmanship.
4. All areas are important, however the basics are the most essential area of training because they make up your foundation.
Q: Do we need a uniform?
A: Yes. Uniform Information will be determined soon. I am still looking for affordable options. Belts will be provided. Belts should be worn to class at all times. You should never place or drag your belt on the floor. Belts do not need to be washed unless absolutely necessary; if so, hand wash and drip dry. There will also be RISE martial arts t-shirts available for purchase for EVERYONE!
Q: When will my child be a certified ninja?
A: Becoming a certified ninja is a journey, not a race! While it’s tempting to imagine your child zipping through the ranks with lightning speed, true ninja mastery takes time, focus, and practice. Advancement is earned through dedication, skill-building, and meeting the challenges of each level. The more effort your child puts in, the faster they’ll rise! Just remember, even the most legendary ninjas started as beginners. So, be patient, and we’ll get there together, one kick at a time!
Q: How does rank advancement work for kids in martial arts?
A: There are 12 belt advancements before black belt. As the instructor, I will review students monthly. Students who have met the necessary knowledge, skill, and attitude requirements plus a minimum time at that specific belt (2-6 months) may be invited to test for rank advancement. Testing will take place during class and be announced in advance.
Q: Will we participate in tournaments?
A: We certainly hope to participate in tournaments as part of our program! Our goal is to eventually host an annual tournament, providing a great opportunity for our students to showcase their skills and gain valuable experience. If you’re interested in helping organize or run these events, we’d greatly appreciate your support!
Q: Any other training suggestions?
A:
1.Be consistent- Regular attendance and participation is important for consistent progress in martial arts. Missing classes can slow down a child’s development, as martial arts skills build upon each other over time. In some cases, poor attendance could also affect your child’s ability to advance in rank
2. Start a notebook (This is more for our older students, but it can be very helpful to write down katas and techniques as you learn them. This is also helpful for when practicing at home)
3.Communicate with your instructor
